The Assessment process: What is involved?

I shall carry out different exercises and activities with you, your child and your child's teacher or SENCO (Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator). The assessments will vary according to the information you provide in the initial screening questionnaire. The assessments provide the detailed picture of why your child may be struggling in school and based on this information I shall make recommendations for additional support, exam concessions (access arrangements) and any other intervention approaches which may be of help both at home and at school.
 
 STAGE ONE: INITIAL ENQUIRY
  • From Parent - information leaflet issued
  • From School -information leaflet issued
STAGE TWO: 'SCREENING' QUESTIONNAIRES ISSUED TO:
  • Parents
  • School teacher/SENCO
STAGE THREE: FOLLOW-UP CALL
  • I shall contact you to arrangement a date to meet with you, your child and your child's school
  • I may seek further clarification of information about your child
 STAGE FOUR: INTERVIEWS AND ASSESSMENTS
  • Short interviews with parent/s, child and school teacher/SENCO
  • Observation of child within class
  • Assessments of child individually
  • Ideally all interviews, observations and assessments should be made on the same day and within the school setting.
STAGE FIVE: REPORT
  • A full diagnostic report will be issued to the parent/s and school (where requested) within 28 days of the final assessment
