The Department for education released the White Paper ealier this month 'The Importance of Teaching' stating its position on a number of issues, such as:
- Reforming Initial Teacher Training including only appointing graduates with a 2:2 or above
- Reduced bureaucracy
- Powers of teachers strengthened to control children's behaviour - including to anf from school
- Use of 'reasonable force' and no-notice detentions
- Changes to the exclusion system
- 'Troops to Teachers' scheme
- Changes to Independent Appeals tribunal
- Initiate Alternative Provision free schools - Provision for permanently excluded pupils
- Review the National Curriculum to reduce its prescriptive nature
- Ensure synthetic phonics are taught routinely throughout Key Stage One
- Introduce a year One reading test for all pupils
- Introduce the English Baccalaureate
- Reform vocational education
- Widen Academy freedoms for all
- Establish Free Schools
- Increase collaboration between schools
- Local Authorities to have a strong strategic role
- More data to be available more widely
- Reform performance tables
- reform Ofsted inspection framework
- Pupil Premium
- National Funding Formula
- Increased transparency
